Carlsbad & North County San Diego

A female plastic surgeon in Carlsbad.

Dr. Heather Vande Ven is a board-certified plastic surgeon in North County San Diego. Breast augmentation is her signature procedure — and the reason most of her patients find her.

A lot of people start with those three words: “female plastic surgeon.” For breast surgery it's one of the most common ways patients narrow a list.

The reasons are practical. Being examined and measured by a woman is more comfortable for some people. Some have been somewhere else already and left feeling they'd been sold a size rather than assessed for one. Some just want to say what they want, in their own words, and be taken at those words.

All reasonable. But the search term isn't what matters — what happens in the room is.

What that looks like here

This is a small practice by design. One surgeon, one office on the coast road, and consultations long enough to finish the conversation.

Sizing comes from measurements, not a cup size: base width across your chest, the tissue you have, where the fold beneath the breast sits, and any asymmetry between the two sides. You'll try sizers, so you're deciding from something you can see rather than a number on a page.

And if what you're asking for is bigger than your frame will carry, you'll be told — along with what she'd suggest instead. Going past what the pocket allows causes problems that show up years later, not weeks later. This is why these consultations and conversations are worth having.

What happens at your consultation

The first appointment is a conversation and an examination — not a sales appointment. Consultations are a nonjudgmental space where only your areas of concern are addressed. Dr. Vande Ven will ask what you'd like to change and why, and what you've been picturing. Bring photos if you've saved any: results you like, and results you don't. They're more useful than a cup size, because two people describing the same cup size are often describing completely different outcomes.

Then she'll measure — base width across the chest, the tissue you have, where the fold beneath the breast sits, and any asymmetry between the two sides. Most people have some, and it's worth knowing about beforehand rather than noticing afterwards. Those measurements are what decide which options will suit you.

You'll also try sizers, so the discussion is about something you can see rather than a number on a page. By the end you'll know what she recommends, what she'd suggest against, what it costs, and what recovery would realistically mean for your work and your training. If the honest answer is a different procedure, or waiting, you'll hear that too.

After the consultation there are preoperative and postoperative visits as needed, all at the Del Mar office.

Coming from Carlsbad and North County

The consultation office sits on Camino Del Mar, the coast road, at the southern end of North County. Typical drive times:

  • Carlsbad Village — about 20 minutes
  • Encinitas — about 12 minutes
  • Solana Beach — about 6 minutes
  • Oceanside — about 28 minutes

Surgery itself is back up the coast in Carlsbad, so most patients travel south for their consultation and north on the day of their procedure. Consultations are by appointment.

Credentials

  • Fellowship trained twice — in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and in Cosmetic Surgery
  • Training completed in New York, New Jersey and Indiana

Where you'll be seen
