Minimally invasive treatments between surgical visits — or on their own. Injectables are held to the same standard as the surgery: proportional to your face, and honest about what they can and cannot do. Dr. Vande Ven treats patients from across Carlsbad and North County San Diego — and many patients travel from outside the area as well.

Wrinkle relaxers

Injections that soften the muscle movement responsible for expression lines — forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, and crow’s feet.

BOTOX® Dysport® Daxxify™

How do wrinkle relaxers work?

Results appear over three to seven days and last roughly three to four months, longer with Daxxify for some patients. Dosing is set by your muscle strength and the movement you want to keep — the goal is softened, not frozen.

What should I expect after wrinkle relaxers?

No downtime. Avoid lying flat, exercising or rubbing the area for four hours. Bruising is possible at injection points.

Dermal fillers

Gels injected to restore volume that has been lost, support structure, and refine contour in the cheeks, lips, temples, jawline and under-eye area.

How do dermal fillers work?

Hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane, Juvéderm) are the most common and can be dissolved if needed. Which product goes where depends on the tissue depth and how much lift is needed.

What should I expect after fillers?

Swelling and bruising for several days, more with lip treatment. Most patients are presentable the next day and settled by two weeks.

Sculptra®

A poly-L-lactic acid injectable that works gradually by stimulating your own collagen rather than adding volume directly.

How does Sculptra work?

Given as a series, typically two to three sessions spaced about a month apart. Change appears over several months and can last two years or more. Suits patients who want a slow, cumulative restoration rather than an immediate result.

What should I expect after Sculptra?

Massage the treated area as directed for five days after each session. Swelling settles within a few days.

Kybella™

A deoxycholic acid injectable that permanently destroys fat cells under the chin.

How does Kybella work?

Usually two to four sessions spaced at least a month apart. It treats fat, not loose skin — if skin laxity is the main problem, Kybella will not fix it and Dr. Vande Ven will tell you so.

What should I expect after Kybella?

Significant swelling under the chin for several days to two weeks after each session. Plan around it.

Frequently asked questions

How long do injectable results last?+

It depends on the product. Wrinkle relaxers wear off gradually over a few months; fillers vary by product and by where they're placed; Sculptra builds collagen over months and lasts longer; Kybella removes fat cells permanently. What's realistic for your goal is part of the consultation.

Will I look frozen or overdone?+

That's exactly what conservative dosing is for. The goal here is that you look rested, not different — and with injectables you can always add more at a follow-up. Taking it away is the hard direction.

Who does the injections?+

Dr. Vande Ven does. This is a one-surgeon practice — there's no separate injector, so the person assessing your face and the person holding the syringe are the same.

Is there any downtime?+

Usually little, but not none. Small injection-site bruises and swelling are common for a few days, and you'll be asked to avoid strenuous exercise briefly. If you have an event coming up, leave a buffer of at least two weeks.

What do injectables cost?+

Pricing depends on the product and the amount used, so it's quoted person by person — you'll know the cost before anything is injected, and there's no obligation to go ahead on the day.
